Museumsfreunde in Wien, Verein der (Society of the Friends of Museums in Vienna), from 1952-1999 successor organisation to the "Oesterreichischer Galerieverein", ("Austrian Gallery Association"), changed into the "Verein der Freunde des Kunsthistorischen Museums" (Society of the Friends of the Kunsthistorisches Museum) in 1999. The Society pooled funds for the acquisition of exhibits, which it lent out to museums as permanent loans, subsidized restorations and the printing of exhibition catalogues. Organizes courses of lectures and art trips. About 4,700 members in 1999.
