Musical#
Musical, short for musical comedy, dramatised production that developed in the United States between 1920 and 1930 out of English operetta and American variety shows. Was brought to Vienna in 1955 by M. Prawy, who introduced the new genre at the Vienna Volksoper, which has to this day remained the stage whose repertory includes classical musicals (My fair Lady, Kiss me Kate, The Man of La Mancha etc.). Other Vienna theatres that have devoted themselves almost exclusively to the musical, particularly since the 1970s, are the Theater an der Wien and the Raimundtheater.
