Nüziders#
Nueziders, Vorarlberg, municipality in the district of Bludenz, alt. 560 m, pop. 4,171 (1981: 3,644), area 22.08 km2, in the Walgau area to the northwest of Bludenz; mainly industry and trade. - Benedictine nunnery, mediaeval hall of the Sonnenberg family, waterworks; about 71% of 1,421 people are employed in industry and trade (1991): textile and metal processing industries (especially steel construction and boilermaking), building material factory, construction and related industries, dairy products, crafts and trades, transport, summer tourism (28,880 overnight stays). In the 9th century Carolingian king´s court, oldest church in the Walgau region. First documented mention 820 under the name of "Nezudene", part of Austria since 1474. - Baroque parish church with Gothic choir and classicistic façade and tower (1826/27); Romanesque St. Vinerius church (oldest church in the Walgau region), exterior frescoes around 1330 and late Romanesque altar shrine around 1530; ruins of Sonnenberg Castle (before 1258, destroyed in 1473); "Tschannhaus" mansion (presumably developed from the Carolingian king´s residence, 17th century).
