Nationalratspräsident#
President of the Nationalrat, elected from among the members of the Nationalrat with two vice presidents (Second and Third Presidents of the Nationalrat). The Presidents remain in office until the newly elected Nationalrat has elected its presidents. The President presides over the work of the Nationalrat and has to ensure that the dignity and rights of the Nationalrat are respected and the tasks of the Nationalrat fulfilled. S/he also has to ensure compliance with the rules of procedure, to maintain law and order in the plenary and to preside over the sittings. S/he is in charge of appointing the administrative officers of parliament and all other personnel matters regarding these officers. The three presidents have to act on behalf of the Federal President in case s/he is not able to execute his/her office for more than 20 days, if s/he is suspended due to an ongoing impeachment procedure or if the presidency is vacant. The presidents and the chairmen of the parliamentary groups form the presidial conference, an advisory body regarding parliamentary work in the Nationalrat (e.g. order of the day, sittings).
