Natterer, Johann August#
b. Vienna, Oct. 19, 1821, d. Vienna, Dec. 25, 1900, chemist, physicist and physician, nephew of Johann Natterer, brother of Josef Natterer. N. used the compressed air chamber pump invented by J. Schembor (1777-1851) to experiment on the liquefaction of carbonic acid, a process fundamental to refrigeration engineering. N. was the first to achieve this (1844). With his brother Josef carried out successful experiments on photographic processing, achieved an increase in the sensitivity of Daguerreotype plates and made the first exposures and photographic reproductions in 1841.
