Neher, Caspar Rudolf Ludwig Kaspar#
b. Augsburg (Germany), April 11, 1897, d. Vienna, June 30, 1962, set designer, worked with Brecht and others; 1924-1926 at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, 1938 at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna, 1945-1947 in Zurich. From 1947 worked in Austria, collaboration with O. F. Schuh, in productions for the Salzburg Festival (mostly at the Felsenreitschule) and in Vienna at the State Opera. Here he created the so-called Viennese Mozart style. Opposed the proscenium stage and advocated bare settings, hardly separated from the auditorium. In 1958-1962 Professor at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Also librettist, painter and director.
