Neuhofen an der Krems#
Neuhofen an der Krems, Upper Austria, market town in the district of Linz-Land, alt. 303m, pop. 4,665 (1981: 4,199), area 18.00 km2, in the Lower Kremstal valley to the south of Traun.
District court, church of the Reformed Church, recreation
centre, branch of the Wagner-Jauregg provincial psychiatric clinic;
dynamic economic structure with several businesses: production of
trapezoidal corrugation sheet, plastics manufacturing, knitwear
factory, brickworks, steel construction, wood processing, building
enterprise.
First documented mention in 888, armourer´s
workshop in the 17th and 18th century, cloth weaving mill in the 18th
century. Market town with late-Gothic parish church (first documented
mention at the end of the 9th century), Baroque alterations in 1658;
column dedicated to the Virgin Mary (1713); market fountain (17th
century). Former castle in Geschwendt/Gries (first documented mention
in 1347), 2 wings of the originally fortified moated castle of 1682
have been preserved.
