Novotny, Fritz#
Novotny, Fritz, b. Vienna, Feb. 10, 1903, d. Vienna, April 16, 1983, art historian. Studied in Vienna, 1938 habilitation, from 1939 worked at the Oesterreichische Galerie and was its director 1960-1968; univ. prof. Numerous publications, particularly on the art of the 19th and 20th centuries (A. Stifter, W. Busch, A. Romako, impressionism, G. Klimt, P. Cezanne, H. de Toulouse-Lautrec). N. was one of the internationally most renowned personalities of the Vienna school of art history and became known for the numerous exhibitions he organised.
