Oberegger, Josef#
Oberegger, Josef, b. Leoben (Styria), Jan. 23, 1896, d. Vienna, Oct. 9, 1969, metallurgical engineer. 1922-1938 worked at the Oesterreichische-Alpine Montangesellschaft, 1945 public administrator, 1959-1964 managing director, then member of the advisory board. Political activities: 1919 member of the Leoben student batallion in defensive combat in Carinthia, 1927 one of the founders of the Heimatschutz movement in Upper Styria, 1928 founder of the Independent Unions, 1932-1934 played a leading part in the Heimatblock political group. After 1938 interned in Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps.
