Oppolzer, Johann von#
b. Nove Hrady, Czech Republic (then Gratzen), Aug. 4, 1808, d. Vienna, April 16, 1871, physician; father of Theodor von Oppolzer. Renowned diagnostician, university professor at Prague (1841), Leipzig (1848) and Vienna (1850, rector 1861); founded holistic diagnosis and therapy in the old Vienna School of Medicine; advocated physiological treatment as opposed to symptomatic pathology.
