Ortner, Erwin#
b. Vienna, Dec. 15, 1947, choral conductor. Member of the Vienna Boys' Choir, then studied music teaching, liturgical music, conducting (with H. Swarowsky) and choral conducting (with H. Gillesberger) at the Vienna Musikhochschule (now University of Music and Performing Arts), where he became Professor of Choral Conducting and Voice Training in 1980; since 1996 also rector. Founded the Arnold Schoenberg Choir in 1972 and is still its artistic director, from 1983 up to its dissolution in 1995 also in charge of the ORF Choir. Much sought-after conductor both in Austria and abroad.
