Ortner, Hermann Heinz#
b. Bad Kreuzen (Upper Austria), Nov. 14, 1895, d. Salzburg, Aug. 18, 1956, dramatist, scriptwriter, librettist, poet. Between 1929 and 1955 the most performed dramatist on Austrian stages; began in 1914 as an actor, 1926-1928 principal dramaturge at the Neue Wiener Buehne, afterwards freelance writer. Breakthrough in 1928 with "Tobias Wunderlich" (1929 at the Burgtheater); after the tragedy "Schuster Anton Hitt" (1932) turned to historical subjects. Member of the NSDAP from 1933, at the height of his success under the National Socialists.
