Ottenstein#
Ottenstein, Lower Austria, district of Krems an der Donau, castle above the Kampstausee (artificial lake) in the municipality of Rastenfeld, one of the most important castles of the Waldviertel region. Documented mention in 1177, rebuilt in 1530, redecorated in the 17th century. Outwork and main castle, moat with stone bridge, chapel (12th century) with frescoes, papal room with 241 portraits of the popes from Peter to Innocent XI. For a long time owned by the Lamberg family, from 1938 Windhagische Stipendienstiftung (scholarship fund), now hotel.
