Pallenberg, Max#
b. Vienna, Dec. 18, 1877, d. near Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic (plane crash), June 26, 1934. Actor. Husband of the operetta diva F. Massary. From 1904 comic actor at the Theater in der Josefstadt, at the Theater an der Wien and at the Deutsches Volkstheater in Vienna. Went to Munich in 1911 and 1914 to M. Reinhardt in Berlin, breakthrough with a blend of comic-clownish elements masking deep tragedy. Roles include Schwejk, Liliom, Peachum, Rappelkopf, Mephisto (in Reinhardt's "Faust" production in Salzburg). From the 1920s numerous guest performances (including performances in Vienna), work for film (including F. Kortner´s "Der brave Suender", 1931).
