Panslawismus#
Pan-Slavism is a movement advocating the cultural and political union of all Slavs. It first appeared in small Slavic countries demonstrating their desire for closer relations to Russia. While at the Slavic Congress in Prague in 1848, the two leading personalities, F. Palacký and K. Havlicek-Borovsky, still advocated Austro-Slavism with tendencies toward autonomy and nationalism, the conflicts between the various ethnic groups within the Austrian Empire caused Austro-Slavism to merge gradually into Pan-Slavism.
