Parkus, Heinz#
b. Vienna, Jan. 31, 1909, d. Vienna, March 18, 1982, engineer. Started his scientific career in 1945 as teaching assistant (focuing on strength of materials) at Vienna University of Technology, where he habilitated in 1948; Professor at Michigan State University (USA) in 1952-55, from 1955 Professor of Mechanics at the Vienna University of Technology (Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering). In spite of the austere conditions prevailing at the time he managed to achieve considerable success as a teacher and researcher.
