Pauser, Sergius#
b. Vienna, Dec. 28, 1896, d. Klosterneuburg (Lower Austria), March 16, 1970, painter. Studied 1919-1924 at the Munich Academy and 1925/1926 in Vienna, 1927 member of the Viennese Secession; first followed Austrian Expressionism, then representative of New Objectivity, from which he later distanced himself. Journeys abroad 1934-1938. 1942 turned down a call to the Art Academy of Karlsruhe, 1943-1944 and again 1945-1967 head of the master school for portrait painting at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. Popular portraitist of famous Austrians (including T. Koerner, K. Renner) and teacher of numerous important artists. Awarded the Grand Austrian State Prize in 1965.
