Payerbach#

Payerbach, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Neunkirchen, alt. 493 m, pop. 2,242, area 17.66 km2, summer resort (20,307 overnight stays in 1992) in the Schwarzatal valley, at the end of the Payerbach graben, at the foot of the mountains Rax, Schneeberg and Semmering. - Cultural centre, Geoschule-Centre for Scientific Field-Work, Geological and Mineralogical Studies and Environmental Protection, social welfare agency with short-term care centre, Salvatorian convent, Schloeglmuehl control post of Vienna's First Spring Water Supply System, metal processing, trade. - Fortified church in late Gothic style (first half of the 16th  century).
