Petritsch, Wolfgang, b. Klagenfurt, Carinthia, Aug. 26, 1947, civil servant and diplomat. Studied history, German language and literature, political science and law at the University of Vienna (1967-72); from 1975 in the Federal Press Service, 1977-83 secretary to Federal Chancellor B. Kreisky; 1984-92 head of the Austrian press and information service in the USA and press counsellor at the Austrian mission to the United Nations Organisation, New York; 1992-94 envoy extraordinary in the Foreign Ministry, Vienna; from 1994 head of the "Information on Europe" department in the Federal Chancellery, 1995-97 head of the Chief Executive Office - "International Relations" of the City of Vienna; 1997-99 Austrian Ambassador to Belgrade, Yugoslavia, since 1999 High Representative of the European Union for Bosnia-Herzegovina.
