Phonothek, Österreichische#
Phonothek, Oesterreichische (Austrian Phonotheque), collection of audiovisual sources of contemporary Austrian history (sound documents and videos) founded in 1960 within the scope of the (see) Federal Museums. In 1998 its holdings comprised 70.000 shellac and 15.000 long-playing records and 20.000 CDs (all of them music and/or speech recordings), as well as unpublished documents (partly from collections and decedents' estates) of cultural events and everyday events of historical interest. The material collected is kept in long-term archives, catalogued and made accessible to the public in the same way as in academic libraries.
