Photovoltaik#
Photovoltaics (solar energy), among alternative energy sources of particular importance in Austria for the power supply, independent of the public supply system, to individual buildings in mountain areas, which greatly reduces the operating time of diesel power units. Storage batteries are used as replacement on days with less solar radiation. At Hochleckenhaus (Steinbach am Attersee, Upper Austria) a photovoltaics plant is operated by the Energie AG Oberoesterreich and the Alpenverein.
Apart from the autonomous solar power plants which are already being
operated, there is an increasing market for energy sources with the
object of reducing power consumption generated by the supply grid. In
Austria, photovoltaics plants of this kind are given financial
support. Projects such as the 30 KW-plant on Loser mountain near
Altaussee and the 40 KW-plant near the Westautobahn at Strasswalchen
(both Energie AG Oberoesterreich and Verbund) are being carried out
for experimental purposes.
