Pichler, Walter#
b. Deutschnofen (South Tyrol), Oct. 1, 1936, sculptor and graphic artist. Began his career with architectural designs for utopian city models, which he created around 1960 with H. Hollein; from 1972 P. worked in St. Martin (Burgenland) on the connection between sculpture and the surrounding space. Archaic forms and materials such as wood, tin, lead and bronze, are typical of these works. Graphics and drawings often explain their spectrum of meaning. 1990 his "Tor zum Garten" was set up in the Museum of Applied Art in Vienna. Awarded the Grand Austrian State Prize in 1985.
