Pietschmann, Herbert#
b. Vienna, Aug. 5, 1936, physicist. Studied mathematics and physics in Vienna; 1960-61 at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, then pursued his academic career in Vienna, Charlottesvilles (USA), Goeteborg (Sweden) and Bonn (Germany), since 1968 Professor of Theoretical Physics at Vienna University. Has published numerous books on the relationship between the sciences and societal developments.
