Powolny, Michael#

b. Judenburg (Styria), Sept. 18, 1871, d. Vienna, Jan. 4, 1954, potter and sculptor, most important Austrian representative of ceramic art at the beginning of the 20th century. Intensive artistic interchange with the Vienna Secession and the Wiener Werkstaette Wiener Werkstaette, he created designs for serial products as well as unique creations for his own workshop "Wiener Keramik", (founded in 1906, merged with "Gmundner Keramik" in 1913); in addition designed for the ceramics industry, also glass designs and later large-scale sculptures. From 1909 teacher at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts.
