Pressbaum#
Pressbaum, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Wien-Umgebung, alt. 317 m, pop. 5,421 (1981: pop. 4,899), area 58.87 km2, traditional summer holiday resort (95,163 overnight stays in 1992) and residential suburb of Vienna on the upper course of the Wien River, in the Vienna Woods. - Autobahn maintenance depot, convent of Elisabethians and Sacre-Cœur (Allgemeinbildende Hoehere Schule (general secondary school) and federal training institute for kindergarten teachers); about 80 % of the inhabitants in gainful employment work in the service sector (1991): mainly personal, social and public services, trade. - New town hall (1964), local history museum, Kaiserbruendl fountain, monument of Emperor Joseph II. Near Au am Kracking, tumulus with burial chamber originally decorated with frescoes (1st half of the 2nd century A.D.).
