Quäker#
Quakers, "Society of Friends", religious community founded in the 17th century. The Quakers took up their charitable activities in Austria in 1921 (between 1922-1939 they ran the International Quaker Centre in Vienna). Between 1934 and 1938 the Quakers supported the persecuted Social Democrats, and, after 1938, they helped Jews to leave Austria; after World War II they provided many people, primarily refugees, with relief supplies.
