Rákoczi, Franz Ferencz II#

Rákóczi, Franz (Ferencz) II, b. 1676, d. 1735, Hungarian magnate. Was accused of collaborating with the French in 1701 and was imprisoned at Wiener Neustadt. Managed to flee and led a Hungarian rebellion in 1703. The revolutionaries (Kurucs) were defeated before Vienna ( Kuruc Invasions). As the elected Prince of Transylvania, he brought about the deposition of Joseph I as King of Hungary at the convention at Onod in June 1707. Went into exile in France before the Peace of Szatmár was concluded (1711) and in 1717 moved to Turkey, where he spent the rest of his life.
