Rechnitz, Burgenland, market town in the district of Oberwart, alt. 348 m, pop. 3,462, area 43.77 km2, at the southern foot of Guens Mountains, near the Hungarian border. - Frontier crossing point and customs post, convent of the Order of the Divine Redeemer, Protestant youth home, museum of boot-making history and tradition; stone breaking plant, viniculture. - Catholic parish church (second half of the 17th century, altered in the 18th century and in 1850), high altar (around 1690) with statues of the Hungarian kings Stephan and Ladislaus; Holy Trinity column (around 1700), Protestant parish church (1783, extended in 1867); new buildings have been erected on the site of a castle which was destroyed in 1945 (granary has been preserved).
