Regionalradio#
Regional Radio: on January 1, 1994 (Radio Act of June 9, 1993, several amendments) private broadcasters were granted the right to broadcast regional radio programmes (in addition to ORF, which broadcasts nine regional programmes). Publishers of print media may not own more than 26 % of a regional radio station and not more than 10 % each in 2 further provinces. The creation of local radio since 1996 is considered a further opening of the market to private broadcasters. Based on the Radio Act the radio authorities of the Federal Chancellery had awarded 53 licences (10 regional licences and 43 local licences) for commercial radio by 1998.
