Reichskulturkammer#
Reichskulturkammer, professional chamber for all persons active in the cultural sector, created in the course of national socialist gleichschaltung (= "coordination") in Germany 1933; divided into chambers for literature, theatre, film, music, press and the fine arts. Was introduced in Austria after the Anschluss in 1938 and served to eliminate political opponents or any persons deemed undesirable, as membership in the appropriate chamber was demanded in order to be able to work in the respective cultural sector.
