Reithoffer, Johann Nepomuk#
b. Valtice, Czech Republic (then Feldsberg), April 13, 1781, d. Vienna, May 6, 1872, industrialist and inventor. 1824 was granted a privilege for the production of waterproof materials, 1828 for the mechanical weaving of these materials using rubber. Founded the first factory for the production of rubberised material on the continent in 1831 in Vienna (1852 relocated to Wimpassing). His brother Josef R. (1796-1858) founded a rubber factory in Vienna in 1832, which his sons relocated to Steyr in 1865 (shut down in 1931).
