Rieder, Rudolf#
b. Vienna, Jan. 2, 1940, physicist. Studied physics at the University of Vienna from 1958 to 1966, on the scientific staff of the Max Planck Institute of Chemistry (Cosmochemistry Department) at Mainz, Germany, from 1966 until 1971 and again since 1986; during the intervening years worked for the Rudolf Sacher Society and Technicon GmbH in Vienna. With H. Waenke, developed the spectrometer for NASA's Pathfinder Mission to Mars (1997); had previously participated successfully in the Russian Phobos Mars missions in 1986-89.
