Rieserfernergruppe#
Rieserferner Mountains, mountain massif of the Central Alps, extensively covered with glaciers; granite core, outer parts consisting of gneiss; extending between East Tyrol and South Tyrol; have formed the Austro-Italian border since 1919. Highest peak on the border: 3,354 m; peaks on Austrian territory: Fleischbachspitze Mountain (3,157 m) and Rosshorn Mountain (3,068 m). Mountain refuge: Barmer Huette (2,591 m). Staller Sattel Pass (2,016 m), south of the Rieserferner Mountains; road connection between the Defereggen Valley and South Tyrol.
