Rote Wand#
Rote Wand Peak, Vorarlberg, 2,704 m, is the highest peak in Vorarlberg. Its name (literally: red wall) comes from the red Lias limestone from the Jurassic period. It towers over the Grosses Walsertal valley to the north, the upper Lechtal valley to the west and Lake Formarin to the south. The Freiburger mountain refuge is located on the Rote Wand Peak at 1,918 m; on the north side of the peak there is a small glacier. The first person to reach the summit was D. Pappus in 1610.
