Rott, Hans#
Rott, Hans, b. Prameny, Czech Republic (then Sangerberg near Marienbad), Aug. 27, 1880, d. Vienna, Dec. 30, 1962, postal worker, trade unionist and Christian socialist politician, worked closely with L. Kunschak, played a leading role in the Freedom Union. 1936 Minister of Social Affairs; his aim was the integration of the Social Democrats in the corporate state. 1939 emigrated to France and Canada, where he founded the "Free Austrian Movement" in 1940, tried in vain to establish an Austrian government in exile and have it recognised by the USA, 1944 founded the "Christian Socialist Party of Austria" in the USA, 1945 became consul general in New York and returned to Austria in 1960.
