Rottenstein#
Rottenstein: there are four topographical objects which bear the name Rottenstein in Carinthia: 1) castle ruins west of Steinfeld, in the upper Drau/Drava valley; Roman fortifications which have fallen into disrepair; the name was changed by Dietrich von Rotenstein in 1135; chief residence of the noble Rottensteiner family; 2) town in the Satnitz region (in the municipality of Ebenthal); Romanesque church with Gothic vault, Baroque altars and Gothic bells; the castle was first mentioned in a document in 1140, castle ruins still remain; Gothic gravestone of Bernhard von Rotenstein in the church of Sager (1300); 3) demesne near St. Georgen on Lake Laengsee (in the municipality of the same name); refers to the old residence; 4) castle ruins east of Kleinkirchheim (in the municipality of Bad Kleinkirchheim), first documented mention in 1207.
