Saalbach-Hinterglemm#
Saalbach-Hinterglemm, province of Salzburg, municipality in the district of Zell am See, alt. 1,003 m, pop. 2,780, area 125.47 km2, international bi-seasonal tourist resort (2,132,708 overnight stays in 1992) located in the Glemm Valley, in the Pinzgau Region, cadastral districts of Saalbach and Hinterglemm (ski village). - Heimathaus (local history museum), federal school hostel, youth guesthouses and youth hostels, conference hall. Cableways: Kohlmaisgipfelbahn cableway (up to Kohlmaiskopf mountain, alt. 1,794 m), Schoenleitenbahn cableways 1 and 2 up to Hochwartalm mountain (alt. 1,478 m) and Wildenkarkogel mountain (alt. 1,910 m), Schattbergbahn cableway (longest cableway in Austria, up to Schattberg-Ost peak, alt. 2,018 m), Zwoelfer Nord single rope cableway (up Zwoelferkogel mountain, alt. 1,983 m); numerous chair lifts and skiing slopes, interconnected ski lifts giving access to a large skiing area between Saalbach and Leogang). - Parish church (documented mention 1410, rebuilt from 1717-1719) with Gothic tower. Next to the church is a watch tower (dates back to the 16th century, also served as material storage post for mines).
