Salm, Franz Xaver Altgraf auch Salm-Reifferscheidt#
Salm, Count Franz Xaver (also known as S.-Reifferscheidt), b. Vienna, Feb. 1, 1749, d. Klagenfurt (Carinthia), April 19, 1822, Prince Archbishop of Gurk, lover of art and nature. 1789 moved the seat of the diocese to Klagenfurt, on the initiative of his general vicar Sigismund von Hohenwart organised the first ascent of the Grossglockner mountain (1799, 4 expeditions before 1806, he himself took part in the first one) and had a refuge erected on the Adlersruhe mountain (at an altitude of 3454 m, the highest in Austria).
