Scala, Arthur von, b. Vienna, Dec. 14, 1845, d. Lana near Meran/Merano (South Tyrol), Sept. 30, 1909, director of the Austrian Museum of Art and Industry (from 1897), his exhibitions on modern arts and crafts and the reorganisation of the School of Arts and Crafts played a major role in ensuring the success of Secessionism. Editor of the monthly publication "Kunst und Kunsthandwerk" (1898ff.).
