Schemenlaufen#
Schemenlaufen, a custom once widespread in Tirol where Fasching parade participants wear wild ("schiache", dialect for "ugly") or attractive ("schoene") masks (" Schemen"). Today Schemenlaufen is practised in Imst, which is well known for this custom. Schemenlaufen parades are usually held on the Sunday before "Unsinniger Donnerstag" ("Foolish Thursday", the last Thursday of carnival) every four years. The custom involves masked men and boys dressed up as "Kuebele-Majen", "Sackner", "Roller", "Scheller" etc. who dance, run and jump through the town.
