Schindler, Franz Martin#
b. Mackov, Czech Republic (then Motzdorf), Jan. 25, 1847, d. Vienna, Oct. 27, 1922. Catholic social politician. 1887-1917 Professor of Moral Theology in Vienna; co-founder and 1892-1911 secretary-general of the Leo-Gesellschaft. Established the policy of the Christian Socialist Party and the "Reichspost" daily paper. From 1889 gathered leading personalities of the Christian Socialists about him ("Enten-Abende"); started "social classes" (Soziale Kurse) in 1894. 1907-1918 member of the Upper Chamber of the Reichsrat. 1918-1922 legal adviser for church matters at the Ministry of Education.
