Schlegel, Josef#
b. Krásná Lípa, Czech Republic (then Schoenlinde), Dec. 29, 1869, d. Linz (Upper Austria), April 27, 1955, Christian-Socialist politician, judge. 1900-1918 member of the Reichsrat, from 1919 Vice-Governor of Upper Austria and head of Finance Department, 1927-1934 Governor. Stepped down after pressure from the Heimwehr (para-military force) and retired until 1947, 1947-1953 president of the Central Auditing Authority. Consolidated the finances of Upper Austria after 1918 and rendered great services to the development of the power industry and coal mining.
