b. Vienna, Sept. 23, 1866, d. Vienna, Dec. 1, 1938. Art historian, university professor in Vienna from 1901 and 1902-1922 Director of the Collection of Armoury and Industrial Art Objects at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Important representative of the "Vienna School of art history" with special contributions to the study of sources in art history and the history of art literature.
