Schottenfeld#
Schottenfeld, since 1850 part of Vienna´s 7th district ( Neubau), formerly fields and gardens of the Vienna Schotten monastery, first buildings erected in 1780 (until 1820 called "Oberneustift"). Ribbon and silk weavers, who immigrated under Joseph II, quickly brought economic expansion to the area (around 1800 more than 300 factories including paste jewellery manufacturing); was also called "Brillantengrund" ("diamond estate"). Schottenfeld parish church (1784-1786) based on designs by A. Zach, since 1946 under the care of priests of the Teutonic order; organ (1790) by F. X. Chrismann, has undergone extensive alterations; high altar (1784-1786) after designs by J. B. Hagenauer.
