Christian Brothers of De La Salle, Brothers of the Christian Schools (FSC), largest lay congregation for education and teaching, founded in 1681 (Reims) and 1684 (Paris) by Johannes B. de La Salle to relieve the plight of the uneducated poor; approved by the Pope in 1725. World-wide activities in the 19th century; the Austrian province was founded in 1857.
