Schwanthaler, Johann Peter der Ältere#
b. Ried im Innkreis (Upper Austria), June 20, 1720, d. Ried im Innkreis (Upper Austria), July 20, 1795, sculptor, principal master of rococo in the Upper Austrian Innviertel region. Son of Johann Franz Schwanthaler, father of Franz Jakob Schwanthaler and Johann Peter Schwanthaler the Younger. Took over the paternal atelier in Ried in 1758; tentatively used elements of classicism.
