Schwarzkopf, Elisabeth Olga Maria Friederike#
b. Jarocin, Poland (then Jarotschin), Dec. 9, 1915. Opera and concert singer, one of the most famous sopranos of the post-war era. Joined the Vienna State Opera after the Second World War and became one of its stars within a very short time; took part in the Salzburg Festival. Numerous recordings, international guest performances and tours made her a nearly legendary star; withdrew from the stage in 1972, then singing teacher.
