Forschungszentrum Seibersdorf GmbH, research centre, founded as a reactor centre in 1956, largest centre of commissioned research in Austria. Its research activities aim at developing new technologies for Austrian businesses as well as to work out solutions for problems involving social and sociological aspects. Its fields of activity are industrial measuring techniques and information processing, process and environmental technology, engineering, life sciences and technology research. After the plebiscite on Zwentendorf nuclear power station in 1978 Seibersdorf was restructured to form an applied technology transfer institution. It is owned by the Republic of Austria and Austrian business and has 520 employees.
