Senftenberg#
Senftenberg, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Krems, alt. 254 m, pop. 2067, area 34.76 km2, in the lower Krems Valley, northwest of Krems an der Donau. - (Private) rehabilitation centre; metal working, dental laboratory, wine-growing. - Excavations dating from the Old Stone Age; castle ruin (dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, devastated in 1645, archaeological excavations) with two towers; parish church (former fortified church) equipped with defensive walls, choir redecorated in Baroque style, sumptuously decorated pulpit (18th century); central market square with houses dating from the Late Middle Ages.
