b. Laengenfeld (Tyrol), March 19, 1831, d. Neustift im Stubaital (Tyrol), Feb. 1, 1884. Mountaineer, priest in Tyrolese mountain villages (Vent, Nauders, Neustift im Stubaital) and co-founder of the Austrian Alpine Club ( Alpenverein, Oesterreichischer) in 1862. S. established Tyrolean mountain guide and mountain rescue service and was known as "Gletscherpfarrer" (glacier priest). The F.-S.-Huette refuge (2,149 m) at the foot of the Alpeiner Ferner glacier has been named after him.
